Pintauro’s Coviglia: eleven variations to rediscover a great Neapolitan classic.

An iconic semifreddo that for centuries has accompanied the sweetest moments of Neapolitan life. Fresh, delicious, and rich in history, the coviglia is one of the most fascinating desserts of the Neapolitan tradition. Today, Pasticceria Pintauro 1785 has chosen to bring this historic specialty back into the spotlight with a new line of eleven irresistible interpretations, designed to celebrate the past and appeal to contemporary tastes.

A dessert that tells the story of Naples

With its soft, frothy, and velvety texture, halfway between mousse and gelato, coviglia represents one of the most refined expressions of Neapolitan confectionery tradition. Loved for generations and even cited by Matilde Seraone in her writings, it is a dessert that encompasses history, culture, and identity, retaining all the charm of its origins to this day.

Eleven flavors between tradition and innovation

Pintauro’s new offering stems from the desire to showcase this masterpiece of Neapolitan pastry making through a selection of flavors that blends tradition with artisanal creativity.

Alongside the traditional Chocolate and Coffee versions of Coviglia, there are also new and delicious interpretations: Lemon, Strawberry, Tiramisu, Pistachio, Babà, Black Cherry Variegato, Hazelnut, Sfogliatella Riccia and Sfogliatella Frolla.

The variations dedicated to Sfogliatella Riccia and Sfogliatella Frolla represent a special tribute to the dessert that made Pintauro famous throughout the world, creating a unique combination of two symbols of Neapolitan tradition.

Craftsmanship that makes the difference

Each coviglia is handcrafted with carefully selected ingredients and processes that respect the historic recipe. The result is a dessert with a light and airy texture, retaining the character that has defined its identity for centuries.

“Our mission is to preserve and pass on Naples’ confectionery heritage. With the Coviglia, we want to bring a masterpiece of our tradition back to the public’s attention, reinterpreting it while fully respecting its history and originality,” says owner Francesco Bernardo.

The origins of the coviglia: a journey between the 17th and 19th centuries

Coviglia’s roots lie in Naples during the Spanish Viceroyalty, between the 17th and 18th centuries. The first preparations similar to sorbets appeared as early as the late 17th century, while the term “coviglia,” likely derived from cubillo, the container used to serve it, became widespread toward the end of the 18th century.

Its consecration came in the nineteenth century, when it became a regular feature in the city’s cafés and pastry shops, becoming one of the most beloved specialties among Neapolitans and visitors.

A new tribute to Neapolitan excellence

With the launch of the Coviglia in eleven variations, Pasticceria Pintauro 1785 renews its commitment to promoting the great Neapolitan confectionery traditions, offering an experience that combines memory, taste, and identity.

Coviglia is available at the historic and unique store at Via Toledo 275, in the heart of Naples, where since 1785 Pintauro has continued to tell the story of the city through its most iconic flavors.
